2026 Home Lift Maintenance Checklist

Choosing a lift for your Perth home is a big decision and a valuable investment in your property’s future. It enhances accessibility, adds convenience, and ensures that everyone living in or visiting your home can move between floors safely and comfortably.

One aspect that can sometimes become an afterthought for homeowners is ongoing maintenance. Regular servicing is essential to keep your lift running smoothly, safely, and reliably all year round.

To help you understand what’s involved, we’ve put together some helpful information on our home lift maintenance checklist, outlining the key checks and procedures our technicians carry out during your annual service visit to keep your lift in top condition.

Home Lift Maintenance Checklist

When our technicians arrive at your home, they will always introduce themselves and ask for your feedback on the day-to-day running of your lift. If you have any concerns, they can address these during their safety and maintenance checks.

Our General Service inspection visit covers essential safety checks and routine maintenance to keep your lift operating reliably.

Safety and Emergency Systems

Safety check
Our technicians verify that all safety mechanisms are functioning correctly. This includes testing emergency stop functions and ensuring protective devices respond as designed.

Test emergency battery backup operation and replace backup batteries
The battery backup allows your lift to lower safely during a power outage. We test the system to confirm it holds a charge and operates properly. Batteries are replaced as needed to maintain reliable emergency operation.

Check alarm and phone line
We test the alarm system and verify the phone line connection is active. This ensures you can call for help if needed.

Cabin E-stop button (if applicable)
The emergency stop button is tested to confirm it immediately halts lift movement when pressed.

Emergency shaft lighting
We check that emergency lighting activates correctly, providing visibility during power failures.

Triangle keys
These specialised keys allow technicians to manually operate doors in an emergency. We verify they’re present and functioning.

Doors and Access Systems

Door operation, safeties, locks and door tracks
Doors are inspected for smooth movement and proper alignment. Safety sensors are tested to ensure doors reopen if an obstruction is detected. Locks and tracks are checked for wear or debris.

Trap door
The trap door provides emergency access to the lift cabin. We inspect its condition and verify it opens and closes securely.

Light curtain
This invisible safety barrier detects objects in the doorway. We test its sensitivity and response to ensure doors won’t close on people or objects.

Buttons, key switches and displays
All control buttons are tested for responsiveness. Key switches and floor displays are checked to confirm they’re working correctly.

Controls and Diagnostics

Check and clear any error codes
Our technicians review the control system for any logged errors. Issues are diagnosed and resolved, with codes cleared once addressed.

Correct time and date on control board
Accurate time and date settings ensure proper logging of system events and maintenance records.

Floor level accuracy
We verify the lift stops precisely at each floor level, making entry and exit safe and comfortable.

Electrical and Mechanical Components

Cable security and earthing
All electrical cables are inspected for secure connections and proper earthing. This protects against electrical faults and ensures safe operation.

Guide rail lubrication
Guide rails are checked and lubricated as needed. Proper lubrication reduces wear and keeps movement smooth and quiet.

Valve block and pump unit (visual)
These hydraulic lift components are visually inspected for leaks, damage, or signs of wear.

Cabin and Structural Inspection

Cabin interior (visual)
The cabin is inspected for damage, wear, or any issues affecting passenger comfort and safety.

Cabin lighting
All interior lights are tested to ensure proper illumination. Bulbs are replaced by our technicians as part of the service.

Pit condition (visual)
The pit area beneath the lift is checked for cleanliness and any signs of water ingress or debris accumulation.

Our Comprehensive Service visit includes everything in the General Service inspection, plus additional in-depth checks and maintenance procedures.

Safety Systems and Protection Devices

Toe guards
These protective barriers prevent objects from becoming trapped beneath the lift. We inspect them for damage and proper positioning.

Stop switches
Multiple stop switches throughout the system are tested to confirm they halt lift operation when activated.

Safety gears
Mechanical safety gears prevent the lift from falling if cables fail. These critical components are thoroughly inspected and tested.

Overtravel switch
This switch stops the lift if it travels beyond its normal range. We test its operation and positioning.

Pit switch
The pit switch allows technicians to control the lift from the bottom of the shaft. We verify it’s functioning correctly.

Circuit integrity and earthing test
Comprehensive electrical testing ensures all circuits are properly earthed and operating within safe parameters.

Doors and Access Components

Door mechanisms inspection
All door hardware, hinges, and operating mechanisms are inspected for wear and proper function.

Door alignment (mechanical and electrical)
Both mechanical positioning and electrical sensors are checked to ensure doors align correctly at each floor.

Hydraulic and Drive System Components

Pressure relief valve (valve block)
This safety valve prevents excessive pressure in the hydraulic system. We test its operation and calibration.

Pump unit operation
The hydraulic pump is tested under load to verify smooth, efficient operation.

Pressure gauge operation
Gauges are checked for accuracy to ensure they provide reliable system readings.

Check oil levels
Hydraulic oil levels are inspected and topped up as needed. Proper oil levels are essential for smooth operation.

All valves, fittings and hose inspections
Every hydraulic component is examined for leaks, wear, or damage that could affect performance.

Ram inspection
The hydraulic ram is inspected for leaks, corrosion, or mechanical wear.

Lift Movement and Levelling

Re-levelling
The lift’s levelling system is adjusted to ensure it stops precisely at each floor, eliminating trip hazards.

Rope tensions and sheath inspection
Cables are checked for proper tension and the protective sheath is inspected for wear or damage.

Car guide shoes inspection
Guide shoes keep the cabin moving smoothly along the rails. We check for wear and proper adjustment.

Clean and replace guide rail lubrication
Old lubricant is cleaned away and fresh lubrication is applied to maintain smooth, quiet operation.

Shaft and Pit Area

Pit cleaning
The pit is thoroughly cleaned, removing any debris or dust that has accumulated.

Shaft ducting
Ventilation ducting is inspected to ensure proper airflow throughout the shaft.
