How Long Does It Take To Install A Home Elevator?

Considering a home elevator for your Perth property? It’s a worthwhile investment that improves accessibility, adds long-term value, and makes day-to-day life more convenient. But one of the most common questions we hear at West Coast Elevators is: How long will it take to install?

The short answer? It varies. Every project is different, and the timeline depends on your choice of lift, level of customisation, whether it’s a new build or retrofit, and how early you engage with permits and planning.

What Affects the Installation Timeline?

Lift System Type

Hydraulic lifts tend to install faster because of fewer mechanical components. Traction lifts, on the other hand, require more technical setup and typically take longer.

Your Chosen Lift Style

We offer four distinct lift options, each with its own set of features and level of customisation, which are factors in the lead time for installation:

Customisation Level

Assorted material samples with colour palettes.

If you’re opting for unique flooring, lighting, or finishes, expect additional time for sourcing and integration. The more bespoke your selections, the longer the lead time, but the results are worth it.

New Build vs. Retrofit

Planning for a lift during new construction makes installation more efficient. If we’re retrofitting into an existing home, we may need to modify the structure, which can add time to the project.

Permits and Compliance

Building permits, council approvals and safety inspections are all part of the process. These vary depending on your location and local regulations, so it’s best to start them early.

Project Coordination

Working with architects, builders, and trades requires careful timing. Delays in one area can affect the overall schedule, so it helps to have an experienced team managing it.

What Does a Typical Timeline Look Like?

While each home and project is unique, here’s a general breakdown of the process:

Initial Consultation & Design

Group of women discussing design plans in office.

Start by visiting our Belmont showroom and speaking with one of our lift specialists. We’ll help you choose the right lift and guide you through customisation options. Once confirmed, engineered drawings are created, which typically take up to 10 business days.

Permit Application

You or your builder will handle the relevant council permits. Processing times vary, but getting started early helps avoid unnecessary delays.

Manufacturing & Delivery

From the time designs are approved, manufacturing usually takes 18-24 weeks. Once your lift arrives at our Perth warehouse, we’ll schedule installation with your builder or contractor.

Installation On-Site

Modern living room with TV and wooden furniture.

The actual installation generally takes 2-4 weeks. This includes constructing the shaft (if required), installing the mechanical system, final adjustments, and finishes.

Commissioning & Handover

We thoroughly test all lift functions, complete final compliance checks, and walk you through operation and maintenance.
